I began my professional career teaching elementary school for two years after earning a bachelor’s degree in education from Wayne State University in 1972. I went on to earn a Master of Social Work degree at Wayne State in 1976. My two internships were St. Peter’s Home for Boys and Lafayette Clinic, each of which provided invaluable experience. To develop sufficient knowledge and skill as a psychotherapist, I pursued post graduate study at the Institute for Individual and Group Psychotherapy. Since self-knowledge was a major focus of my later training, I took it upon myself to get a thorough course of personal psychotherapy. I have been a member of National Association of Social Workers, Michigan Group Psychotherapy Society and American Group Psychotherapy Association for thirty years. I have served Michigan Group Psychotherapy Society in many capacities, including a term as President of that organization. I have presented at several local, national and international conferences and have also chaired or helped organize several professional seminars. As a native Detroiter, I have maintained an interest and commitment to the metropolitan area. I support a variety of local institutions through contributions and participation. I am a long-term lover of classic literature, poetry, films, yoga and chess, all of which I also find useful in my work with patients.
